Accreditation and Training
We are registered with West Berkshire Early Years Development & Childcare and are routinely inspected by Ofsted (Office of Standards in Education and Development) against the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework. Our sessions are designed to meet stringent requirements for high quality care, early learning and child development. Our registration permits a maximum of 14 children per session with a staff: child ratio of 1:4 for 2 - 3 year olds and 1:8 for 3 years +. In reality however, we often have a 1:5 ratio for the 3 years + session.
A copy of our latest Ofsted inspection (May 2009) can be found on the pre-school notice board, or on the Ofsted website at www.Ofsted.gov.uk and the pre-school website http://www.streatleyhillpreschool.org.uk/ The report shows how the Pre-School has been awarded with either Good or Outstanding inspection judgements across all the categories for our Effectiveness of Provision.
We are also registered with the Pre-school Learning Alliance (Membership No 25593/Y 1996G) and have formally adopted their constitution. A full copy of all the policy and procedures that we adhere to is available to all parents and staff at pre-school, please take the time to make yourself familiar with them. An individual copy can be sent to you by email upon request. We take advantage of Local Education Authority training courses to keep our staff up to date and to extend our expertise. Many courses are also available to parents and committee members and will be displayed on the notice board outside pre-school.
Management and Administration
The pre-school is run by parents through a voluntary committee which is elected annually at an Annual General Meeting held in October. All parents are encouraged to attend. The committee consists of Chair, Secretary, Treasurer, Registrar, Fundraiser, Fundraising team member and general members, and is responsible for reviewing and applying current pre-school policy, employing and appraising staff, maintenance of buildings and ground.
We are a registered charity (RCN: 1015769) and as such rely heavily on fundraising to maintain and improve our pre-school. It is hoped that all parents will help on the committee at some point during their child’s time at pre-school. This is a great way to meet other parents and learn about the role of the pre-school in the community. Any assistance that parents are able to give, either on the committee or as helpers at fundraising events is greatly appreciated and of direct benefit to the preschool, and usually good fun too!
